Stephanie D. Coleman

SDC-WebStephanie D. Coleman is from Lenoir City, Tennessee, and graduated summa cum laude from Lee University in Cleveland, TN, with a B.A. in 2005. She earned her law degree from the University of Tennessee, College of Law in 2008. While there, she was named to the Order of Barristers, achieved Dean’s List and received Certificates of Excellence in Contracts II and Contract Drafting. She also argued for the Labor and Employment Law Moot Court Team at the national competition in New York. She was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 2008 and the United States District Court Eastern Division of Tennessee in 2009.

Stephanie, who is now a partner with the firm, began clerking for Owings, Wilson & Coleman in 2007 and became an associate with the firm in 2008. While at Owings, Wilson & Coleman, Stephanie has rendered valuable legal advice as general counsel to businesses throughout East Tennessee. She has formed and dissolved corporations and limited liability companies. As a routine resource for the companies with which she works, she has reviewed contracts, assisted in collections and advised on employment law issues related to ADA, FLSA, FMLA, and unemployment claims. She has drafted employee handbooks, policy and procedure manuals, affirmative action plans and serves as a resource to ensure compliance with local and federal laws and regulations.

Stephanie also represents local government entities extensively. While working for the West Knoxville Utility District, City of Alcoa and Knox County Retirement and Pension Board, she has advised at board meetings, acquired easements, defended class action litigation, reviewed contracts, revised policies and procedures and represented creditors in bankruptcy proceedings.

Stephanie is a member of the Tennessee Court Attorney’s Association and the Knoxville, Blount County, Tennessee and American Bar Associations. She has served as the Membership Co-Chair and Historian for the East Tennessee Lawyers Association for Women, and as Justice, Treasurer and Clerk of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity. The Legal Aid of East Tennessee Pro Bono Project awarded Stephanie an Individual Award for her service in both 2010 and 2011. Stephanie graduated from the Leadership Law Class of the Tennessee Bar Association in 2014, and she serves on the Knoxville Symphony League Board of Directors.
